I have modified the Spitfire MKIX (- the big one-) to be hand launched.
I made a hand grip located exactly under the C/G so it can be thrown for take off.
I also strengthened the radiators so they can take a belly landing without damage.
I did not mount any retracts, only glued the wheels/wheel-covers inside the wing for scale appearance.
Now I can fly from unimproved airfields.
I also strengthened the main wing joint with a carbon fibre strip over/under the wing joint,
so the hand grip could have a strong bond to the wing, also strengthening the wing joint itself.
The Spitfire MkIX is easy to hand launch with flaps extended and some up elevator trim.
It flies beautifully, looks every bit like the real thing, and so far landings have been trouble free.
I may have to replace the fixed propeller with a foldable prop to reduce the chance of breaking the prop upon landing.
But so far so good.
