    Hi all,
    Just bought my first aircraft the F-86. Decided to start print testing with the canopy. Also just bought Simplify3D so I’m new to that too. This is being printed on an Ender 3. Prints are very good, using Factory files (did have to make minor adjustments in Temp and Speed). However, I’m getting ridges on the outside skin from the inside support “ribs”(pic attached). Can anyone point me as to which setting/s I should play with in Simplify3D to get rid of them?
    This was brought up before by someone but I can not find any replies/solutions to this issue.

    Hiya,
    I am a beginner with this and am trying to print a wing section from the SlingBlade using the supplied factory G-codes. My printer is an Anet A8 and is calibrated. Two sides of the print are good but the other two look like under extrusion. There are also signs of stringing internal. I stopped the print after about 25 mm of Z axis as it was clearly not adequate. Does anyone know what I (or the printer) is doing wrong?

    Hello, I have printed two Mig-15, the Corsair is ongoing and just today I have start with the F-86. With all the planes, I have had always problems with weight. It’s quint impossible to obtain the values of the trunks declared into the build manuals. Can you better describe, what is rquired to check to obtain the same values the you declare ?

    There are two things that you need to check.

    First, is E-axis calibration. Does the extruder actually move through the requested amount of filament? The usual way to test this is to make a mark some distance up the filament from its entrance to the extruder, 120mm for example. Then command the extruder to extruder a known amount of filament. 100mm for this example. The measure from the extruder entrance to the mark you made. If its less than 20mm, the extruder is moving more filament than commanded. If it is more than 20mm then it is extruding less than commanded. Adjusting the steps/mm ratio for the extruder is a printer specific thing, so I can’t tell you exactly how to update it, but you will need to do a bit of math to figure out the proper ratio based on the actual amount of filament extruded in your test.

    The second item is to calibrate your extrusion multiplier. To do this, print a small, I used 20mm per side, cube with a perimeter count of 1, and no top or bottom layers. Set the layer width to your nozzle width for all layers and the extrusion multiplier to 1.00 in your slicer. Print the object, then measure the width of the walls with a pair of calipers. Measure in several places, they should be similar, but I would take the smallest, or average them. Divide the expected layer width by the measured width and use this as your extrusion multiplier. If the measured width is greater than the expected layer width, the extrusion multiplier will be < 1.00 and if the measured width is less than the expected layer width, the extrusion multiplier will be > 1.00.

    Doing the above, I am within about 5% of the listed weight. There will always be some amount of variation depending on the material you use to print and what additives it has. I believe most of the manuals state that within about 10% of the listed weight is acceptable. In general, I would consider slightly heavier to be better than lighter and lighter means that you might be losing structural integrity in places if you are too much lighter.

    Hi wpmcnamara,
    I have calibrate the Extruder and the extrusion multiplier like your indications, but the situation don’t is changed so much.
    This is my last piece of the F-86 it’s declared of 30g but mine is 61g!!!!
    I printed it in PETG and in attach you can find also my profiles, any suggestion is realy appreciated.

    The recommendations for printing are to use two perimeters for the first 1-2mm, then use one perimeter for the rest of the print. There are some parts, the wing tips on the Edge 540 for example, that have special needs and so have multiple processes. Printing them with just two processes results in unusable parts. I haven’t looked at the F86 yet, but it wouldn’t surprise me if several parts their have more than two processes. I need to order some more silver filament before I can start the F-86 print. For my prints, I have been starting with the included factory files and thing modifying only the settings I need to get clean prints on my printer — mainly extruder settings. It’s a bit harder if you aren’t using Simplify3d.

    PETG weighs just slightly more that PLA. The weights specified are for PLA. In the case of your 30g part, printed in PETG, the part would weigh 30.7g if you used the exact same amount (by volume) of PETG.
