ParticipantI think you if you go to Thingiverse https://www.thingiverse.com/search?q=anet+a8&sa=&dwh=205a44c0017bcda and look at the add on you can print to improve your printer, you will benefit from them. I have added the following:
1, power switch cover https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1798604
2,extender button https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2182276
3,Y belt tensioner https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2149867
4, X belt tensioner https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1683070
5, corner stiffener https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1672959
6, Y frame stiffener https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2058789
7, electronics case https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2375941
8, Bowden extruder https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2146021
9, Bowden holder https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2193695
With the bowden extruder mod i found i could increase the speed of the head movement, owing to the stepper motor not being carried around all the time, from 130/mm/s to 150/mm/s.
I want to next add some LED lights to the head so i can see the print, and thus detect any issues on the first layer.Yusuf
ParticipantHi Thoemse, i am sure you will achieve the same results too, it’s a great way to learn how it all works, by building your own printer.

ParticipantThnak Petr, the printer is now available for $119 on Gearbest ! it has been my first, but i think it has taught me a lot about 3D printing, so now i know what to look for in my next one 🙂
Burton, i am not using anything extra, only what comes in the factory file.Yusuf
ParticipantHi Burton,
i am using Simlify3D , and the factory files that came with the Spitfire, the only seetings i have changed is the Retraction distance from 0.8mm to 4.0mm, & the X/Y Axis Movement Speed from 130 mm/s to 150 mm/s .
I will using these settings for all my files in future, even ones that are not from 3DLabPrint .Regards.

ParticipantHi Petr,
It worked!!
All stringing has gone and the speed is increased without any issues, thanks to Burton’s recommendation (Thanks Burton).
So i increase the retract distance to 4mm and increased the speed to 150/mm, and the results are seen in the photos. Thanks to your help and guidance!!

ParticipantHi Petr,
just another question, i am going to try Polymax PLA as i hear it is stronger like ABS but without all the problems of ABS. Have you tried this, and is it a good option? as i feel my flying wont be so good with such a big plane, and fragile assambly.regards,
Yusuf
ParticipantHi Petr,
sorry for the misunderstanding, i have changed the mm/min to mm/sec now and i have default printing of 60/mm/s and X/Y of 130.0 mm/s. So what are you saying i should go up in increments of 6mm until i find a faster setting, without skipping layers/steps?regards,
Yusuf
ParticipantHi Petr,
i will try the retract again, i have seen some users raise this to 3mm, so i guess thats my range. What do you mean by the travel moves speed? is it the Default Printing Speed, or the X/Y Axis movment Speed your refering too?
I have also converted the Anet A8 to a Bowden extruder, so it is no longer has the weight of the stepper, so do you know what speed i could go upto, as your default is 3600/mm/min.regards,
Yusuf

ParticipantHi Miguel, the slicer I am using is slicer3D, and the Spitfire came with a factory file for slicer3D that has all the settings for you.
So I just had to increase one value “retraction distance” from 0.8 to 1.4mm, and it worked.
Hope that helps?Yusuf
ParticipantHi Petr, I went up to 1.40 and now there’s no strings, thanks for your help!
